What Is Liposuction?

At the most fundamental level, liposuction is the removal of excess and unwanted fat through tiny access sites. With the highest level of safety, most liposuction and body contouring cases can be accomplished in the outpatient setting, but in some circumstances, it may need to be performed in the operating room.

Liposuction can be used to enhance the appearance of various areas of the body, including larger areas like the thighs and stomach, as well as smaller more delicate areas like around the chin and jawline. Liposuction is commonly performed on the:

  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper arms
  • Chest (Gynecomastia)
  • Stomach
  • Flanks
  • Thighs

It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure and is designed to remove a precise amount of fat from areas of the body to enhance the contours of your figure. If the area being treated has stretched out loose skin, liposuciton may not be the ideal option as the procedure does not tighten skin.

Choosing the Right Surgeon to Perform Your Liposuction

The surgeon you choose to perform your liposuction is a very important decision since everyindividual’s physique and desires are different. Dr. Parry has an eye for the artistic perspective and a great appreciation of the natural, beautiful, and proportional body aesthetics.

In addition to being a double board certified and fellowship trained Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Parry completed a General Surgery Internship at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York where he rotated through Plastic Surgery and first learned his skills in performing liposuction. He continued to master his liposuction skills during his residency and fellowship training and continues to stay current in the newest techniques.

Liposuction should not be viewed as a quick fix for individuals who are overweight. To obtain best results, liposuction should be integrated with exercise and diet to give the most optimal results.

Liposuction Combined with BodyTite

Unlike traditional liposuction which only removes unwanted fat, liposuction combined with BodyTite also tightens skin. Since BodyTite is performed before liposuction, the radiofrequency causes coagulation and liquifying of fat which allows less trauma and easier fat removal than traditional liposuction.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are the best candidates for Liposuction?

The most ideal liposuction candidate is at or within 30% of ideal body weight, maximizing diet modifications and exercise before surgery is ever performed. Dr. Parry will use your body mass index, or BMI as a guideline for maximizing safety and aesthetics using liposuction.

  • What BMI is considered safe for Liposuction?

The ideal candidate will have a BMI between 20-25.Individuals with BMI between 25-29 that have reached a weight loss plateau after diet and exercise may also be candidates for liposuction.

  • Is Liposuction right for me?

Every case must be individualized to determine if liposuction is right for you. During your consultation, Dr. Parry will carefully review your goals, perform a physical examination and advise you on the best treatment option.

  • Can Liposuction be performed safely in an outpatient setting?

Liposuction can be accomplished safely in the office under local tumescent anesthesia for small areas, or under light sedation for larger areas. In some cases, liposuction may be performed in the operating room under general anesthesia.

  • What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction is a type of liposuction using a large volume of tumescent solution for maximizing safety, comfort and cosmetic results.

  • Should I combine BodyTite with Liposuction?

Most people have both loose skin and extra adipose tissue and would benefit from both modalities. BodyTite uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the loose skin which is associated with aging and liposuction.

A compression garment is worn continuously for two weeks and intermittently for an additional two weeks. Compression shapewear such as Spanx can be used instead of a garment after one week.

  • When can I see results Liposuction?

The results can become visible in 2-10 weeks once all the swelling has subsided.
