Scar Repair Cleveland and Columbus

Scar RepairScar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of unattractive scars from previous surgery, trauma, or lacerations especially in cosmetically sensitive regions such as the face and neck. Scar revision often involves the reorientation of the scar to allow it to blend in with the natural contours of the face and neck.

Scar revision can be performed either surgically with excisions, skin grafts, local flaps or non-surgically with lasers, steroid injections, chemical peels and microneedling. The appropriate treatment is individually tailored to the location and severity of the scar.

Scar Repair Goals

  • Remove unsightly scars
  • Reorientation of scars to blend them in for a more natural appearance
  • Remove painful hyperopic and keloid scarring

FAQs

  • How much downtime can I expect?

Most patients can return to work or school the same day. Sutures are removed in 4 to 7 days.

  • Will insurance cover scar revision?

Scar revision is often considered to be cosmetic in nature, but sometimes if the scars are painful, or itchy they will be covered by insurance.

  • Will I need steroid injections?

Oftentimes after scar revision the patient will receive local steroid injections at the site to help reduce the risk for a recurrence of the scar especially when removing hypertrophic or keloid scars.
