When Your Eyelids Get Saggy, Blepharoplasty May Be the Answer
One of the most common signs of aging is sagging skin around the eyelid region. This is an issue that not only affects our aesthetic appearance, but can lead to vision problems as well. With time, the muscles that support our eyelids become weaker, while the skin around our eyes become loose, resulting in saggy and droopy eyelids.
This is an issue faced by men and women across the globe, making them look much older than they actually are. Besides, it affects your peripheral vision too. With blepharoplasty, you can easily make these problems go away and say hello to a rejuvenated and youthful look.
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure where excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids and/or lower eyelids are removed. It is more commonly known as eyelid surgery. By removing the excess tissues, your drooping eyelids are corrected, giving you a refreshing new look.
In addition to this, any problems that may have been a result of your saggy eyelids such as reduction of peripheral vision are also corrected.
Here are some reasons why you should consider blepharoplasty:
• It gives you a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance
• It removes the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines around your eyes
• It removes bags under your eyes – another sign of aging that gives you a puffy, tired, and dull look
• It removes excess skin that interferes with your peripheral vision
What Are The Procedure And Recovery Like?
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you don’t have to stay in the hospital after your surgery. However, the procedure is complex, which is why you must only go to a board-certified surgeon with plenty of experience.
The surgeon will administer either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Then, incision lines will be made on your upper eyelids. These incisions are carefully made so that they will be hidden by the natural creases of your eyelids. It is through these incisions that excess fat and skin are removed, while your muscles are tightened.
For your lower lid, an incision is made right under your lash line, through which excess fat, skin and muscles are removed and repositioned as required. Depending on your unique individual case and your goals, a transconjunctival incision may also be created, which is an incision inside the lower lid. This does not require any skin removal.
Once the necessary corrections are made, the surgeon with close the incisions and bandage the treatment area. Sutures will be removed a week after the blepharoplasty. During your recovery period, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising for about two weeks, after which your eyelids will become smoother and more youthful.

You can consider blepharoplasty if you identify with any of the following:
• You are 18 years or older
• The skin on your upper lids have become loose, giving you a droopy look
• You have a poor peripheral vision because of the excess skin in the area
